"It took a lot of courage for me to decide that I wanted to try Counselling for my depression and anxiety. I am a very shy individual, but Allison was respectful, and made me feel comfortable, so I had no problem opening up to her. Allison has taught me skills to deal with life's stressful situations, ways to overcome anxiety and improve my emotional well being. I can confidently recommend Allison to others knowing that she helped me through my depression and made me see the brighter side of life."

At West Coast Counselling, we work with individuals, couples and families. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help and so it is very important to us to create an environment in which you can feel comfortable and safe in sharing with us.

We work with many issues including:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • parenting concerns
  • post-partum depression and anxiety
  • relationship issues
  • anger management
  • addictions
  • grief and loss

We use a client-centred approach where you, the client are the focus and your goals are used in determining where you want to go with therapy. We also use approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, a form of therapy that works with your thoughts to help change how you are feeling. This can be helpful in dealing with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.

For couples, we work in a way that each person's thoughts and feelings are heard so one person doesn't feel 'ganged-up' on by their partner and the therapist. We work with communication, finding the friendship in your relationship again, problem solving and how to fight fair.

In family counselling, we look at the roles that each family member plays and also make sure that each family member has a voice. In doing this, we can find effective ways to communicate with each other and also problem solve.

We also offer hypnotherapy for issues such as anxiety, stress reduction and sleep issues.
